US WELCOMES KIEV PARLIAMENT’S VOTE ON DECENTRALIZATION – 01 Sept – Ukraine’s parliament passed a reading of the draft constitutional changes with 265 votes on Monday, but the bill will need 300 votes at a later stage to become law.

SPECIAL STATUS PROVISIONS REMOVED FROM UKRAINE CONSTITUTION, SAYS POROSHENKO – 31 Aug – Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said on Monday that any provisions which could give eastern regions a special status had been removed from the country’s constitution.
“Article 92 envisioning a theoretical possibility of special status for certain cities has been removed to eliminate even the slightest legal hitch for a parade of sovereignties,” Poroshenko said after Ukraine’s parliament on Monday voted in favour of constitutional changes.

DONETSK SAYS UKRAINE’S CONSTITUTIONAL CHANGES WILL NOT RESOLVE CRISIS – 31 Aug – The constitutional changes adopted by Ukraine’s parliament in the first reading on Monday have nothing to do with the Minsk agreements and will not help to settle the crisis in Donbas, DPR’s negotiator Denis Pushilin has said.
Kiev claims that the so-called decentralization bill proposed by President Petro Poroshenko is intended to give the eastern region a special status, as demanded by the Minsk agreements reached on February 12 in the Belarusian capital.
“We do not recognize what is going on now in the Rada as we know for sure that the amendments proposed by Poroshenko are just an imitation of the Minsk agreements implementation,” Pushilin said.
